The occasion
Lunch & Learns catering in Los Angeles & Orange County
What it takes to cater lunch & learns well — the logistics, the timing, and how we make it work.
A lunch & learn needs food that arrives on cue and eats without distraction. We cater them with individually packed meals or a quick-serve spread — labeled, halal, and delivered set up before the session starts — so the speaker keeps the room and no one is unwrapping foil over the slides.
A lunch & learn has a constraint no other catered meal has: someone is presenting, and the food is competing with them. Crackle, foil, strong aromatics and anything that needs cutting all pull attention off the front of the room. We build for quiet — meals boxed and closed before they arrive so nobody is unwrapping during the first slide, soft packaging rather than rigid foil, and dishes chosen to be assertive in flavour without being assertive in smell. Fish and heavy fried items stay off these menus for that reason. The practical target is that the room can eat through a presentation without the speaker having to raise their voice or wait, and that is a menu decision made well before the day.
The other half is that nobody should have to ask a question to find out whether they can eat something. Every box is labeled with its contents and allergens on the outside, so a guest with a restriction reads rather than asks, and vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free are packed to look like every other box rather than obviously singled out. The whole order is halal · zabiha-sourced. We deliver and set up before the session starts rather than during it — 48 hours notice is usually all we need — and where the room is booked tight we will stage the boxes outside it so the load-in is not part of your agenda. Invoicing is per head and itemized, splittable by department or cost center, with allergen sheets per dish if your L&D or facilities team files them.
Why Carthage
Why Carthage for lunch & learns
What you get with us for lunch & learns specifically — not a generic catering pitch.
Built to not compete with the speaker
Closed boxes, soft packaging, no crackle or foil, nothing that needs cutting. Strong aromatics and fried fish stay off these menus on purpose.
Labeled so nobody has to ask
Contents and allergens printed on the outside of every box. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free packed to look identical to the rest, not singled out.
Set up before the session, not during
Delivered and staged ahead of the start — outside the room if it is booked tight — so the load-in is not part of your run-of-show.
Clean per-head accounting
Individually portioned means an exact count. Itemized invoicing, split by department or cost center, allergen sheets on file.

Lunch & Learns catering runs about $15–$46 per guest for food. Multiplied out, that is what a spread costs at the counts people usually ask about.
| Guests | Estimated food cost | Per guest |
|---|---|---|
| 25 | $375 – $1,150 | $15 – $46 |
| 50 | $750 – $2,300 | $15 – $46 |

| 150 | $2,250 – $6,900 | $15 – $46 |
Food only. Staffing, rentals, delivery, setup and breakdown are separate lines, and a mandatory service charge and California sales tax apply on top — so the invoice for a staffed event runs meaningfully above the food figure. Smaller counts sit at the top of the band: setup and delivery cost the same at 25 guests as at 100. Every menu halal · zabiha-sourced.
