The occasion
Mitzvahs catering in Los Angeles & Orange County
What it takes to cater mitzvahs well — the logistics, the timing, and how we make it work.
A bar or bat mitzvah is two events in one afternoon — a room full of teenagers who want food they'll actually eat, and a room full of adults who want a real celebration meal. We cater to both without cooking two separate parties: a kids' station or buffet that lands with a thirteen-year-old crowd, running alongside a grown-up spread or plated service, timed so both rooms are fed while the simcha keeps its momentum.
Dietary care matters more here than almost anywhere. We are a halal · zabiha-sourced kitchen and we're honest about what that means — we prepare to those conventions and label every dish, and we'll talk through your family's specific needs directly and our suppliers will produce their halal certification on request, though we hold none of our own. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free run as standing lines so every guest, and every grandparent, is fed the same fresh food.
Two rooms on one timeline is the operational reality. The kids eat early, fast and standing, and then they eat again later; the adults eat once, properly, and expect it to feel like an occasion — so the two services run on different clocks rather than opening one buffet and hoping it covers both. There is a program, and the food works around it: service pauses for the speeches and picks up when the floor clears, rather than competing with them. Most of these happen in a synagogue hall or a rented room with house rules about what may be brought in, what may be cooked on site, and what has to leave with us, so we confirm those before quoting instead of meeting them at load-in. Priced per guest with the kids' service counted separately, staffed for the length of the party, and the room returned the way we found it.

Mitzvahs catering runs about $44–$85 per guest for food. Multiplied out, that is what a spread costs at the counts people usually ask about.
| Guests | Estimated food cost | Per guest |
|---|---|---|
| 25 | $1,100 – $2,125 | $44 – $85 |
| 50 | $2,200 – $4,250 | $44 – $85 |
| 100 | $4,400 – $8,500 | $44 – $85 |
| 150 | $6,600 – $12,750 | $44 – $85 |
Food only. Staffing, rentals, delivery, setup and breakdown are separate lines, and a mandatory service charge and California sales tax apply on top — so the invoice for a staffed event runs meaningfully above the food figure. Smaller counts sit at the top of the band: setup and delivery cost the same at 25 guests as at 100. Every menu halal · zabiha-sourced.
