How it works

Shelter & Community Meal Program, in practice

Who the program is for

This is nonprofit catering that runs every week rather than once a year. It is built for organizations that feed the same people on a schedule: shelters and interim housing sites, outreach and drop-in programs, community meal programs, recovery and reentry residences, and nonprofit and faith-based programs that serve a daily or weekly meal. You tell us the sites, the service days and the meals per delivery; we cook, pack, label and deliver to each site, and the program runs on that calendar until you change it. A fundraiser or a gala is a different job, with its own page under nonprofit gala catering.

Boxed or bulk, delivered per site

Two formats cover almost every program. Individually boxed meals suit a hand-out window, a site without a serving line, or residents who eat at different times: each box is sealed and labeled with its contents, allergens and dietary track, and sorted by site before it leaves the kitchen. Bulk drop-off suits a program that serves from its own line with its own staff or volunteers: the food arrives in trays, labeled, set down where you want it. A program can mix the two, boxes for one site and bulk for another, and each site gets its own delivery window and its own line on the invoice.

A rotating menu people do not tire of

The people you serve may eat with us five days a week, so repetition matters more here than at any office. We plan the menu as a rotation, share the calendar ahead, and adjust it to what your sites tell us is eaten and what comes back. Every order is halal · zabiha-sourced: no pork and no alcohol in any form, so one menu serves a mixed population without anyone being handed a different meal. Vegetarian and vegan tracks run alongside on every delivery, labeled per dish. Meals made without a given allergen are labeled that way, but our kitchen is not allergen-free, so cross-contact cannot be ruled out. We do not prepare therapeutic, texture-modified or other clinical diets; a resident who needs one should be served through a provider that does.

Counts, schedule and changes

Each delivery is confirmed in writing 10 days before it goes out: meals per site and the dietary split. You are billed on that count or the number served, whichever is higher, and if more people arrive after the deadline we add meals when we can source and make them, at the same per-meal rate. Known closures, holidays and site moves go into the calendar at setup and are never scheduled. Adding a site or a service day is a change to the standing order, not a new contract, and the program ends on 30 days' written notice, with no charge for deliveries scheduled more than 30 days after the notice.

Paperwork a funder or agency can use

Grant-funded and agency-funded programs answer for every meal, so the records come with the food. You get one invoice per billing period, itemized by site and by delivery with the meal count and the per-meal rate, the menu for each delivery, and the contents and allergen label for each item. We accept purchase orders, and approved accounts are invoiced net-30. If your funder or contract asks for something else, such as a specific meal-pattern record or a vendor form, send the requirement before you sign and we will tell you plainly whether we can produce it.

What a nonprofit meal program costs

Programs start from $18 a meal, all-in; the exact rate turns on things only you know: meals per delivery, the number of sites, the service days and the boxed or bulk split. Your proposal sets a per-meal rate that holds for every delivery, itemized line by line, and registered 501(c)(3) organizations get program pricing. Individually boxed meals start at 15 meals per delivery. Send your sites, days and counts and we return a written proposal you can take to a board or a program officer.

Questions

Before you ask

Do you provide catering for nonprofits on a recurring schedule?
Yes. Alongside one-off events, we run recurring meal programs for nonprofits: the same sites, on the days you set, with a rotating menu and one invoice per billing period. Shelters, interim housing, outreach and community meal programs, and faith-based programs that serve a weekly meal all run this way.
Can you be the meal provider for a shelter or interim housing site?
Yes. We deliver individually boxed or bulk meals to each site in an agreed window, labeled with contents, allergens and dietary track and sorted by site. Your staff or volunteers hand them out or serve them, and every site appears as its own line on the invoice.
How does a meal program for a nonprofit get started?
Send us your sites, service days, meals per delivery and dietary mix. We return a written proposal with a per-meal rate, itemized line by line. Once it is accepted we agree the menu rotation, the delivery window at each site and who receives the invoice, so the first delivery arrives set up the way the program will run.
What dietary needs can the program cover?
Every meal is halal · zabiha-sourced, with vegetarian and vegan tracks on every delivery, labeled per dish. Meals made without a given allergen are labeled that way, but our kitchen is not allergen-free, so cross-contact cannot be ruled out. We do not prepare therapeutic, texture-modified or other clinical diets.
How are meal counts confirmed and billed?
You confirm each delivery's count in writing 10 days before it goes out. You are billed on that count or the number served, whichever is higher. If more people arrive after the deadline, we add meals when we can source and make them, at the same per-meal rate.
What documentation can you give our funder or agency?
An invoice per billing period itemized by site and by delivery, with the meal count and per-meal rate, plus the menu for each delivery and the contents and allergen label for each item. If your funder requires something else, such as a specific meal-pattern record, send the requirement before you sign and we will tell you plainly whether we can produce it.
Do you accept purchase orders and net-30 terms?
Yes. We accept purchase orders, and accounts we approve for credit are invoiced net-30. Until an account is approved, the standard payment terms in our Business Terms apply.
Can we change the schedule or end the program?
Known closures and holidays go into the calendar at setup and are never scheduled, and adding a site or a service day is a change to the standing order. The program ends on 30 days' written notice, with no charge for deliveries scheduled more than 30 days after the notice.
How much does a nonprofit meal program cost?
Programs start from $18 a meal, all-in; the exact rate depends on meals per delivery, the number of sites, the service days and the boxed or bulk split. Your proposal sets a per-meal rate that holds for every delivery, and registered 501(c)(3) organizations get program pricing.
Do you also cater nonprofit events and fundraisers?
Yes. Galas, benefit dinners and donor receptions are covered on our nonprofit gala and fundraiser catering page. This program is for meals served on a recurring schedule.
